2018

I’ve steadily been learning how to “be still and wait” this past year, and if I can be 100% transparent, I haven’t always done it well. In fact this year has been one of the most challenging to wait, specifically on the Lord’s direction or His timing. If you’re not a person of faith, I know how strange that last sentence may sound to you, but the concept is the same across the board – waiting and being still. I think we can all relate to that. We live in an age where everything appears to be instant and our lives (or at least the parts we choose to share) are on display for the world to see, to criticize, to celebrate, to compare, to champion, and the list goes on. It’s incredibly easy to fall into that same habit and be comparing ourselves to other’s showcased lives.
Even in business I’ve been finding moments to be still and to wait, rather than feeling rushed to get a certain angle or to quickly finish off a gallery. During sessions, I’ve made more of an effort to slow things down and watch for the emotion and candid moments. At weddings, I’ve noticed the small gestures, like a bride’s father holding back tears as he sees his baby girl dressed in white, or those stolen glances as a groom admires his wife. I’ve been learning to watch, wait, and to be still enough to notice those moments around me. Life goes quick and I’m learning to cherish the still moments and in turn I’m learning how to watch for those moments in others’ lives.
As I was preparing this blog and searching through all of the 2018 galleries, I was filled with gratitude and joy, and even a sense of awe. As a photographer, you never know what the year is going to bring or who you’re going to meet, but as I reflect on this past year I can confidently say it’s been one of, if not the best years yet. Thank-you to each and every one of you who chose us to capture your moments of 2018! To all our couples, families, businesses, and artists, thank you and we wish you the absolute best in 2019! We hope that this year is filled with dreams coming true, new beginnings, and unshakable joy in all that you do.
